According to a report from Alcohol Concern, approximately 5% of deaths among young people are alcohol-related, pointing to a significant problem for the UK.

And of even more concern is the fact that this number continues to rise, and that we are increasingly seeing children as young as 10 years old getting into trouble with alcohol.

The Department of Health responded to this report and said: “This report shows the devastating impact that alcohol has on the lives young people who drink too much.

“We must educate them so they understand how bad it is for their health now and in the long term.”

For this message to be successful it must be passed on in both the school and at home.  It can, however, be difficult to know how to best communicate such a message to young people.

It is with this in mind that we have produced both the Young Person’s Guide and also the Adult’s Guide to Alcohol.

The Young Person’s Guide to Alcohol informs teenagers aged 13 and above about the effects and risk of drinking alcohol. It also includes advice on how to reduce their risk-taking behaviour and vulnerability and explains what action young people should take in an alcohol-related emergency.

The Adult’s Guide to Young People and Alcohol accompanies the Young Person’s version and contains the facts on how to approach the issue of alcohol use.

Both resources contain a directory of national advisory services.
